Overview
Al Di Meola is one of the most technically accomplished acoustic guitarists alive. Horgas Eszter is a Hungarian flutist with a classical foundation and the instincts of a jazz improviser. Putting the two of them on the same stage, with Bizet's Carmen threading through the program, was either an inspired gamble or an obvious match — depending on how you look at it.
This live recording captures what happened when it worked. The concert opens with Cseke Gabor's nine-minute "Exordium" and builds through four Piazzolla arrangements — Cafe 1930, Double Concerto, Fugata, Libertango — that Di Meola has long made his own. The Carmen material surfaces through Bizet's Habanera, the Entr'Act, and a closing Finale built on Carmen's Gypsy Dance, arranged by Horgas herself.
The playing is precise without being cold. Di Meola's right hand and Horgas Eszter's flute find a register that's genuinely rare: acoustic, intense, and unhurried all at once. The digibook packaging reflects the same care — hardcover, premium printing, a presentation more book than jewel case.
If you already know Al Di Meola's work with Paco de Lucia and John McLaughlin, this will feel like a natural expansion of that world, with a Hungarian voice added to the conversation.
