Overview
The Mézga family is a cornerstone of Hungarian animation, and this six-disc collection gathers both classic series in one go — around ten hours of it. The first three discs are the original Üzenet a jövőből: A Mézga család különös kalandjai, where ordinary suburban dad Géza, mum Paula, teenage Kriszta, boy-genius Aladár and the dog Blöki keep receiving meddling "messages from the future" from MZ/X, a distant descendant. The next three are Vakáció a Mézga családnál, the holiday spin-off that sends the whole clan on travels that go wrong in every imaginable way.
Across all six discs the comedy runs on Romhányi József's pun-laden dialogue and Pannónia Filmstúdió's warm hand-drawn animation — sharp satire of modern life wrapped in gentle slapstick that still lands with kids and the adults who grew up on it. The vacation discs come from digitally restored masters and carry extra material (interactive menus, direct episode access, the "Vakáció akció" feature and a Mézga album).
For collectors, buying the two series together is the tidy way to own the franchise — six paper-case DVDs, both runs complete, in clean used condition.
Interesting Facts
- The collection spans two of the franchise's connected series: the original "messages from the future" run and the later holiday adventures.
- Romhányi József, famous for his rhyming wordplay, wrote dialogue prized for puns that are nearly impossible to translate — part of why the Mézgas stayed so beloved at home.
- Co-director Ternovszky Béla later became internationally known for the animated feature Macskafogó (Cat City).
- All animation comes from Pannónia Filmstúdió, the flagship studio behind most of Hungary's classic hand-drawn cartoons.
- The vacation discs are sourced from digitally restored masters, a step up in picture quality.
- Franchise music was composed by Deák Tamás and Pethő Zsolt, giving the whole set its recognizable sound.
