Slipcase-housed 2-DVD set covering 26 live tracks across two discs — 14 on disc 1, 12 on disc 2. Material drawn from Omega's large open-air stadium concerts of the 1990s and 2000s, the era when the band routinely filled venues like Népstadion and Puskás Aréna. A two-disc set marking fifty years of the band that, more than any other, defined what rock music sounded like behind the Iron Curtain. Signed by the members themselves on the inside.

Omega doesn't really need a long introduction in Central Europe. Founded in 1962 in Budapest, fronted for nearly six decades by the unmistakable voice of János Kóbor, they built a catalogue that sold millions across the Eastern Bloc and pulled tens of thousands of people into a single stadium night after night. Greatest Performances gathers the highlight reel from those huge outdoor shows of the 90s and 2000s — full lighting rigs, full sound systems, the band playing material from their entire arc, from early hits like Petróleumlámpa and the legendary Gyöngyhajú lány to the science-fiction concept-album anthems Gammapolis and Start.

Produced by frontman János Kóbor himself together with András Trunkos, with cover artwork by long-time Omega visual collaborator György Lieber and Gábor Sárkány. The autographs on the inner panel push this past being a reissue and into something a serious Omega collector would put behind glass.

Interesting Facts

Omega holds a unique position in European rock history. The band's 1969 song Gyöngyhajú lány (Girl with Pearl-Like Hair) became one of the most internationally licensed Hungarian songs ever recorded — the Scorpions famously adapted it as White Dove, and the melody was later sampled by Kanye West and Jay-Z on the track New Day from Watch the Throne (2011).

Frontman János Kóbor, whose unmistakable baritone defined the band, fronted Omega from 1962 until his passing in December 2021. The band's late-70s/early-80s concept albums — Gammapolisz (1978), Az arc (1981), Working (1981) — pulled together prog rock, space rock and electronic synthesizer textures in a way that placed them alongside Pink Floyd and ELO in the wider European prog scene.

Omega's stadium shows from the era documented here became the stuff of Hungarian rock legend. The Kisstadion '79 and later Népstadion concerts drew crowds that few Hungarian artists have matched since.

Az Omega egyedülálló helyet foglal el az európai rocktörténelemben. A zenekar 1969-es Gyöngyhajú lány című dala minden idők egyik legtöbb külföldi licenccel kiadott magyar dala lett — a Scorpions White Dove címen vette át, később a dallamot Kanye West és Jay-Z is felhasználta a Watch the Throne (2011) című lemez New Day című számában.

A zenekart 1962-től egészen 2021 decemberében bekövetkezett haláláig az összetéveszthetetlen baritonú Kóbor János vezette. A 70-es évek végi és 80-as évek eleji koncepcióalbumai — Gammapolisz (1978), Az arc (1981), Working (1981) — úgy ötvözték a progresszív rockot, a space rockot és az elektronikus szintetizátor hangzást, hogy a zenekar a Pink Floyd és az ELO mellé került a tágabb európai prog színtéren.

Az Omega stadionkoncertjei az ezen a kiadványon dokumentált korszakból a magyar rocktörténelem legendás eseményei. A Kisstadion '79, majd később a Népstadion-koncertek olyan tömeget vonzottak, amelyhez kevés magyar előadó tudott azóta is felérni.
