Overview

Plug Me In is the live history of AC/DC told entirely through the footage — no narration, no talking heads, just the band on stage across nearly thirty years. The two discs run about five hours and pull from TV studios, festivals, club gigs and arena shows, much of it never officially released before this 2007 set.

Disc one covers 1975 to 1979, the Bon Scott era. You get the early Australian TV appearances, the raw club energy of "It's a Long Way to the Top," "Let There Be Rock" from Glasgow, and the Highway to Hell-period shows that closed out Scott's time with the band. It's the rough, fast, dangerous version of AC/DC, filmed before they were a stadium act.

Disc two runs 1981 to 2003, the Brian Johnson years — Back in Black and beyond, through to the massive Toronto Rocks show in 2003. Tokyo, Moscow, Paris, Sydney, Munich, Detroit: the band getting bigger venue by venue while the songs stayed exactly as direct as ever.

The producers state plainly that the clips were chosen for historical value first and source quality second, assembled from a global hunt through archives and fan collections. The result is the most complete picture of AC/DC as a live band that exists on disc.

Interesting Facts

  • The set was assembled from a worldwide search through TV station archives, film company vaults, record label tapes and private fan collections, prioritising historical importance over picture quality.
  • Disc one captures the Bon Scott era (1975–1979); Scott died in February 1980, making this footage a key record of the band's original frontman on stage.
  • The collection includes performances from St Albans High School in Australia (1976), filmed when AC/DC were still building their reputation at home.
  • A bonus clip features The Rolling Stones performing "Rock Me Baby" with Angus and Malcolm Young, recorded at Leipzig in June 2003.
  • The Moscow 1991 segment comes from the Monsters of Rock show at Tushino Airfield, played to one of the largest crowds the band ever performed for.
  • Beavis and Butt-Head appear in an animated "Ballbreaker Tour" intro film from 1996 included among the bonus features.
