English Description:
The II. We are before the end of World War. Squadron commander Bill Forrester (Gregory Peck) has already carried out several daring missions with his fighter planes over Burma. Convinced that their commander is insane and intent on death, his comrades drive himself and his men into frenzied air raids. Forrester really wants to die, he wants to follow his wife to death, who fell victim to a bombing on their wedding night. When he goes on a routine flight one day with a crew of two, the plane crashes in the jungle in enemy territory due to an engine failure. Two of his companions are seriously injured in the disaster. The chances are not very promising: with two wounded, without food, and a small amount of water, he has to cross the Burmese
in the desert. The film was nominated for 4 BAFTA awards by the English Film Academy (including Best Film and Best Screenplay).

A II. Világháború befejezése előtt járunk. Bill Forrester (Gregory Peck) repü- lőszázad-parancsnok már több vakmerő küldetést hajtott végre vadászrepülőgé- peivel Burma felett. Társai meg vannak győződve arról, hogy parancsnokuk őrült, és szándékosan keresi a halált, ezért hajtja magát és embereit eszeveszett légi akciókba. Forrester valóban meg akar halni, követni akarja feleségét a halálba, aki nászéjszakájukon bombázás áldozatául esett. Amikor egy napon rutinrepülésre indul kétfős legénységgel, hajtóműhiba miatt a gép lezuhan a dzsungelben ellen- séges területen. Két társa a katasztrófában súlyosan megsérül. Az esélyek nem túl biztatóak: két sebesülttel, élelem nélkül, egy kis adag vízzel kell átkelnie a burmai
sivatagon. A filmet az Angol Filmakadémia 4 BAFTA-díjra jelölte (többek között a Legjobb film és a Legjobb forgatókönyv kategóriában).
