Overview
This original vintage Soviet table medal was struck in 1972 to commemorate the All-Union Philatelic Exhibition held in honor of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Soviet state (1922–1972). The piece is meticulously designed to look like a classical postage stamp trapped inside a solid metal block.
The obverse side displays high-relief molding showing the state coat of arms with crisp, industrial-style Cyrillic lettering running along its simulated stamp edges. This variant comes with a blank uniface back, showing off the natural raw texture of the metal alloy casting. It stands as a unique historical artifact ideal for collectors of Soviet memorabilia, philatelic history, or mid-century Communist phaleristics.
Interesting Facts
- This item was issued specifically for a massive exhibition in 1972 celebrating the formal treaty that established the Soviet Union back in December 1922.
- Unlike standard round pins or badges, heavy rectangular table plaquettes like this one were meant to be displayed on desks or kept in specialized velvet presentation boxes for high-ranking guests or award winners.
- The design intentionally mimics the perfs (perforations) of a physical stamp, which was a favorite stylistic choice of the All-Union Society of Philatelists when commissioning commemorative awards.
