Overview

When archaeology professor Robert Burns (Steven Seagal) gets caught up in a Chinese drug-smuggling operation — through no particular fault of his own, in the way Seagal's characters never quite are — he responds in the only way he knows how: with rapid, systematic, and very effective violence. Out for a Kill is a late-era Seagal direct-to-video production with Hungarian actress Dobó Kata in a key supporting role, giving this release an added dimension of local interest for Hungarian buyers.

The film is exactly what it presents itself as: an action vehicle that lets Seagal do what Seagal does. Michael Oblowitz keeps the action moves clean and the pacing brisk. If you're buying this, you already know what you're getting — and this Hungarian SPI edition delivers it in both Hungarian and English audio. Dobó Kata's appearance alongside Seagal made this a minor event in Hungarian cinema circles at the time.

Interesting Facts

  • Dobó Kata (born 1974) is one of Hungary's most prominent film actresses; her appearance in an international Steven Seagal production attracted significant Hungarian media coverage in 2003.
  • The film was co-produced by Millennium Films and shot partly in Central Europe, which explains the Eastern European cast members.
  • Steven Seagal's character is introduced as a professor of archaeology and Chinese studies — the premise allows the film to move between academic settings and action sequences.
  • SPI International was a major distributor of action titles in Hungary during the 2000s, bringing both Hollywood and international action films to the Hungarian market.
  • Michelle Gah appears as the female lead opposite Seagal.
  • The Hungarian DVD release carries the "A professzor" title, which neatly sidesteps the somewhat blunt original title while keeping the character's academic identity.
