In the film Stavisky, Jean-Paul Belmondo portrays Alexandre, a charismatic con artist who navigates the upper echelons of early 20th-century French society and controls the corrupt police force. Alexandre even influences the political activities of Trotsky, who has been granted temporary asylum. However, unchecked spending, uncovered checks, and forged government bonds lead to a massive scandal that threatens the country with civil war. Directed by Alain Resnais, the film reveals rich historical and political layers, providing an authentic and gripping portrayal of the era.
