Overview

Major Payne is a comedy film released in 1995 that follows the story of U.S. Marine Corps Major Benson Winifred Payne, portrayed by Damon Wayans. After returning from a violent but successful drug raid in South America, Payne learns that he has once again been passed over for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. His military career comes to an abrupt end when he receives an honorable discharge, based on the premise that "the wars of the world are no longer fought on the battlefield" and that his skills are no longer needed.

Struggling to adjust to civilian life, Payne applies to the police academy but faces difficulties when he is arrested for assault after hitting a man during a training exercise. As Payne attempts to whip these cadets into shape, he faces a series of comedic challenges while trying to instill discipline and teamwork in this unlikely group of students.
