About Lynyrd Skynyrd
Formed in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida, Lynyrd Skynyrd is a cornerstone of the Southern Rock genre. Known for their electrifying live performances and timeless hits like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," they reached worldwide fame during the 1970s. Tragically, an airplane crash in 1977 claimed the lives of several members, including lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, but the band re-formed in 1987, with Ronnie's younger brother Johnny Van Zant taking on vocals.
Until Gary Rossington's death in 2023, he was the last remaining original member of the band. Lynyrd Skynyrd's influence on music remains monumental, with their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 cementing their legacy.
