EN: Gárdonyi’s inspiration for The Invisible Man came from the grand funeral of the painter Mihály Munkácsy, which stirred his imagination toward Attila’s legendary burial. He immersed himself in Priszkosz rhetor’s ancient writings, as well as archaeological and ethnographic studies, to accurately depict the customs, warfare, and attire of nomadic peoples. Gárdonyi even traveled to France, visiting the site of the Battle of the Catalaunian Plains (451 AD) to estimate the scale of the historic clash between Attila and Aetius before beginning to write.

HU: Gárdonyit a festőfejedelem Munkácsy Mihály temetése indította arra, hogy megírja Attila hun király legendás történetét. Forrásai között szerepelt Priszkosz rétor, aki személyesen ismerte Attilát, továbbá régészeti és néprajzi tanulmányok, amelyek segítették a kor szokásainak, viseletének és harcmodorának hiteles bemutatását. Az író még Franciaországba is elutazott, hogy a Catalaunumi csata helyszínét személyesen tanulmányozza, s pontos képet alkothasson Attila és Aetius ütközetéről. Csak ezután kezdett hozzá a regény megírásához.
