Harmony of Difference is a masterful six-movement suite by the visionary saxophonist and bandleader Kamasi Washington. Originally premiered as a multimedia installation for the 2017 Whitney Biennial, this EP explores the philosophical concept of "counterpoint"—the art of combining different melodic lines to create a harmonious whole. Washington uses this musical technique as a metaphor for the beauty found in human diversity. The suite builds through five distinct movements, each exploring a unique mood or "difference," before culminating in the epic, thirteen-minute finale "Truth," which weaves all previous themes together into a soaring, spiritual crescendo.
