Dmitrij Sosztakovics Az orr (The Nose) című műve a 20. század egyik legkáprázatosabb szürrealista remekműve, amely Nyikolaj Gogol híres novellája alapján készült. A mindössze 20 éves Sosztakovics által komponált szatirikus opera az avantgárd energia robbanása, egyedülálló ütőhangszeres közjátékkal és egy olyan cselekménnyel, amelyben egy bürokrata arra ébred, hogy az orra eltűnt, és nála magasabb rangú tisztviselőnek adja ki magát. A Valery Gergiev vezényelte Mariinszkij Zenekar ezen díjnyertes felvétele a modern kor alapművének számít.
