Band Legacy
REO Speedwagon formed in 1967 in Champaign, Illinois, and took their name from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck designed by Ransom Eli Olds (who also founded Oldsmobile). Unlike the original company pronunciation, the band chose to spell out the individual letters "R-E-O" in their name.
Commercial Success
The band achieved their greatest commercial success in the early 1980s with their album "Hi Infidelity" (1980), which contained four US Top 40 hits and sold over ten million copies.
