With permission from the German colleagues, he substantially enriched the Russian edition by adding articles about Russian and Soviet numismatists including A.N. Zograf, D.G. Kapanadze, A.K. The translation work presented unique challenges, as many numismatic terms lacked direct Russian equivalents. Translator M.G. Arseniev and editor Potin carefully adapted terminology considering Russian numismatic traditions and language structure, sometimes transliterating terms when necessary. Unlike the German original, inscriptions on coins—including titulature and mottos—were translated into Russian. The editor acknowledges that illustration scales may not match the originals and notes that minor inaccuracies in the original text were corrected directly in the Russian translation, with more significant issues addressed in editorial notes.

The book was printed at Moscow Printing House №4 of the All-Union Polygraph Association (Soyuzpoligrafprom) under the USSR State Committee for Publishing, Printing, and Book Trade. With a substantial print run of 100,000 copies, this dictionary became widely accessible to Soviet collectors and scholars. In his preface, V.M. Potin expressed sincere gratitude to his colleagues from the Numismatics Department and the departments of ancient culture and foreign Eastern art at the State Hermitage, particularly V.M. Brabich, N.L. Grach, N.V. Ivochkina, G. Leonov, and E.S. Shchukina for their advice and consultations on translating various ancient and Eastern terms.

Prior to this publication, Russian-language readers had only V.V. Zvarich's modest "Numismatic Dictionary" (3rd edition, Lviv, 1979) available, making this comprehensive German-Soviet collaborative work a crucial resource for the growing community of professional and amateur numismatists in the USSR.
