This unique release from Et’cetera Records offers a rare perspective on two of Mozart’s greatest masterpieces through the lens of historical chamber music arrangements. The Rusquartet, joined by violist Ilya Hoffman and cellist Mikhail Nemtsov, performs the Requiem in D minor, KV 626, in a haunting arrangement for string quartet by Peter Lichtenthal (c. 1802). Additionally, the album features the Grande Sestetto Concertante, a brilliant anonymous 1808 arrangement for string sextet of the famous Sinfonia Concertante, KV 364. Stripped of the orchestra and choir, the pure melodic genius and architectural strength of Mozart's music are brought into intimate focus.

• The Requiem Transformed: Peter Lichtenthal, a physician and composer who was a friend of Mozart's son, Carl Thomas, created this string quartet arrangement to allow this monumental sacred work to be performed in domestic settings and smaller venues.
• Anonymous Brilliance: The Grande Sestetto Concertante arrangement was so well-crafted that for years it was thought to be by Mozart himself. It allows the two solo parts (originally violin and viola) to be integrated beautifully into a democratic, six-part texture.
• Rusquartet: Formed at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Rusquartet is known for exploring neglected scores and providing fresh interpretations of the classical canon, making them the perfect ensemble for these historical transcriptions.
