Overview

Melech Shel Kabzanim (King of Beggars) is an engaging Israeli historical adventure film that artfully combines elements of traditional samurai swordsmanship and martial arts. Set against the backdrop of the Russian-Polish border at the end of the 19th century, the story follows the young protagonist, Fishke.

In a desperate bid to save his village from a Polish pogrom, Fishke is prepared to marry a mysterious blind beggar woman, guided by whispered legends from the village elders. However, the plot thickens when it is revealed that the beggar woman is actually the lover of the notorious leader of a ruthless band of robbers. As Fishke confronts this dangerous situation, he ultimately finds himself in a duel where he must defeat the gang leader to assume control of the band and lead them against their oppressors.
