Similarly, the Mahotella Queens from South Africa have been active since the 1960s, helping to define the mbaqanga style that became the soundtrack to the anti-apartheid movement.
Traditional Instruments

Rajery from Madagascar is a master of the valiha, the emblematic bamboo tube zither of Madagascar, while Mamadou Barry from Guinea showcases the kora, a 21-string harp-lute that has been central to West African griot traditions for centuries.

Track 14 features a rare collaboration between two giants of Malian music: Boubacar Traore and the late Ali Farka Toure.
