Persuading the Label: Despite Hyperion already having a complete Liszt cycle by Leslie Howard, Hamelin personally persuaded the label that his interpretation of the B minor Sonata offered a unique enough perspective to warrant a new recording.
The "B-A-C-H" Theme: The opening track, Fantasy and Fugue on the Theme B-A-C-H, is Liszt's homage to Johann Sebastian Bach, using the notes B-flat, A, C, and B-natural (which in German notation is H).
