A szerző, a magyar amerikanisztika és anglisztika egyik legkiemelkedőbb alakja, Kossuth Lajos és Bethlen István történelmi szerepén keresztül mutatja be, hogyan alakult Magyarország külpolitikai és kulturális önképe a brit világ vonzásában.

Kossuth Lajos, aki 1851 után Anglia és az Egyesült Államok egyik legnépszerűbb szónokává vált, Magyarországot felhelyezte a modern Európa politikai térképére.
