English The origins of Eric Burdon and the Animals are rooted in the industrial environment of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where Burdon, born into a lower-working-class family, discovered his vocation as a bluesman. By 1965, the group was so popular they were competing with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in popularity polls. Interestingly, the lineup for these albums included future stars such as John Weider, Vic Briggs, and Andy Summers—who would later achieve global fame as the guitarist for The Police.
