Overview

Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson) is an obsessive-compulsive writer of romantic novels who is rude to everyone he meets, including his gay neighbor Simon (Greg Kinnear). But when Simon is hospitalized and his dog is left in Melvin's care, and his favorite waitress Carol (Helen Hunt) faces a family crisis, Melvin's carefully constructed world of isolation begins to crack.
