Overview

English: Often cited as the greatest American film of all time, Casablanca is an undisputed masterpiece of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Set during World War II, the story follows Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), a cynical American expatriate who runs a nightclub in the Moroccan city. Rick's life is turned upside down when his former lover, Ilsa Lund (Ingrid Bergman), walks into his bar with her husband, Victor Laszlo (Paul Henreid), a renowned resistance leader. Rick must decide whether to help the woman he still loves and the man she is with escape the Nazis, or let his bitterness guide his heart. It is a timeless tale of sacrifice, duty, and "as time goes by" romance.

• The film's iconic theme song, "As Time Goes By," was actually written back in 1931 for a Broadway musical called Everybody's Welcome.
