- The Forbidden Suite: Saint-Saëns originally viewed The Carnival of the Animals as a "grand zoological fantasy" and a private joke. Fearing it would ruin his reputation as a "serious" composer, he forbade its public performance during his lifetime, with the exception of "The Swan."
