A szerző célja, hogy bemutassa, miként járultak hozzá a jogászi hivatásrendek a modern magyar állam kiépítéséhez, és milyen szerepet játszottak a demokrácia, a jogállamiság és a szakmai autonómia eszméjének meghonosításában.

A kutatás alapját a Magyar Országos Levéltár igazságügyi anyagai, valamint a Budapesti Ügyvédi Kamara közgyűlési jegyzőkönyvei képezik.
