Each era has its gifted interpreters of the Holy Scriptures, and W.H. Griffith Thomas must be reckoned among that elite group of authoritative expositors of God's Word in the twentieth century. A man of brilliant intellect, enormous energy, and profound Christian faith, he could write such definitive textbooks as The Principles of Theology on the one hand, and deeply devotional studies of various. parts of Scripture on the other.

He was never more lucid, however, than when he was writing for such periodicals as The Christian. He had apparently planned to deal with every book of the Bible chapter by chapter, in successive issues
of that publication, but was not spared to complete that task. The present volume contains the articles on the Pentateuch, which have been edited by his daughter. They are models of simplicity and
clarity that contrive to conceal very cleverly a massive erudition and spirituality. The first two chapters will prove of particular value to the beginning Bible student as they point out the proper way to study
the Word of God.

As Through the Pentateuch unfolds, the reader is confronted consistently with the message of redemption and revelation through divine grace, and each chapter furnishes an opportunity for meditation on
some aspect of that broad message. The era during which Dr. Griffith Thomas wrote was one of intense, and sometimes destructive criticism of the Holy Scriptures. Though he was acquainted with this situation, the author remained uncontaminated by its negative tendencies as he expounded the spiritual principles of God's Word.

The reader is thus furnished with a concise and accurate account of what the Pentateuch contains and teaches, and is given example opportunity to reflect upon the significance of these ancient writings.
To modern western readers the old Pentateuchal laws and rituals are often bewildering, but Dr. Griffith Thomas explains them with great skill, and by periodic references to the New Testament points out their
significance for Christian living today.
