Rare live footage of Sonny Rollins and Jim Hall, both together (San Francisco 1962) and apart: Jim Hall with Art Farmer in San Francisco 1964 and Rollins in the Netherlands 1973. Salt Peanuts. 2007.

Born in 1930, Sonny Rollins was one of the most distinctive tenor saxophonists of the mid fifties. His first steps followed the bebop idiom initiated by Charlie Parker, but he soon
went into freer forms after feeling the strong influence of John Coltrane. Rollins gained certain renown in 1951 for his work with Miles Davis and (in 1953) Thelonious Monk. He
was part of the famous Max Roach-Clifford Brown Quintet in 1955-56, and from then on he fronted many different formations of his own, exploring more radical musical frontiers
with each release. He recorded with electric pop and funk-oriented bands in the 70's and the 80's, and even participated on the Rolling Stones' album Tatoo You in 1981. This DVD
presents Rollins in a quartet setting with legendary guitarist Jim Hall (born in 1930, who is also seen here playing "My Kinda Love" with trumpeter Art Farmer) and in performance
with his quintet in 1973, playing his two compositions "Don't Stop the Carnival" and the famous "St. Thomas".
