In 1854, Rev. Alexander Grosart of Scotland came to America, where he spent time pouring over the manuscripts of Jonathan Edwards, the greatest philosopher and theologian ever to grace the American scene. He gathered some of his work in a small volume and printed it for subscribers in 1865, anticipating a fuller treatment of Edward' writings by other publishers. Only 300 copies of that work were printed. His desire for more research was hampered by the American Civil War. This re-issue of that volume contains material by Edwards which is largely unavailable today. Contained in this volume are:
* TREATISE ON GRACE - Grosart declares that this work has "a holy fervor... a rapturous exultation in the excellency and loveliness of God, aglow in iteration, of the wonder and beauty and blessedness of Divine Love." This work has, however, been reprinted separately.
* ANNOTATIONS ON THE BIBLE None of these annotations are in any of the editions of Edwards' Works previously printed.
* DIRECTIONS FOR JUDGING OF PERSONS' EXPERIENCES-This formed Edwards' guide in his test-conversations with enquirers during the Great Awakening.
