Of course, it is not "more typical" in the sense that the moral manuals proclaim. But still I, the faltering, unfaithful, the fugitive, I am the one who was able to remain faithful from within and with all my will to that other law, which has no trace in the books and on the legal tablets, and yet this law is the real one. This is a tough law. Listen to me. The law of the world is that what is started must be finished. It's not a great joy. Nothing comes in time, life gives nothing when we are ready for it. This mess, this delay hurts for a long time. We think someone is playing us. But one day we notice that there was a wonderful order and system in everything. Two people cannot meet even a day before, only when they agree to meet. They understand, not exactly by their inclinations or whims, but from within, by the dictates of some indefensible astronomical law, how the heavenly bodies meet in infinite space and time, with the precision of a hair's breadth, in the same second that is their second, between the billions of years and the infinities of space. The prisoner confesses to his prison, not to his former love.One day, in happier centuries, perhaps everyone will be free in their ideas. But emotions will still betray people. They free each other with their words and beat each other to death with their hearts. The decree is not only about faith, but also about human relationships.

Kemény törvény ez. Figyelj reám. A világ törvénye olyan, hogy ami egyszer elkezdődött, azt be is kell fejezni. Nem valami nagy öröm ez. Megértek, nem éppen hajlamaikkal vagy szeszélyeikkel, hanem belülről, valamilyen kivédhetetlen csillagászati törvény parancsa szerint, ahogy az égitestek találkoznak a végtelen térben és időben, hajszálnyi pontossággal, ugyanabban a másodpercben, amely az ő másodpercük, az évmilliárdok és a tér végtelenségei között. A fogoly a börtönének gyón, nem a volt szerelmének.
