English Summary:

Inspector Gadget (also known as Inspector Gadget: The Movie and The Real Inspector Gadget in the working title) is a 1999 American science fiction action comedy film directed by David Kellogg and written by Kerry Ehrin and Zak Penn from a story by Ehrin and Dana Olsen. Loosely based on the 1983 animated television series of the same name, the film stars Matthew Broderick as the title character, Rupert Everett as Dr. Claw, Michelle Trachtenberg as Penny and Dabney Coleman as Chief Quimby. Three new characters were introduced such as Dr. Brenda Bradford (played by Joely Fisher), Mayor Wilson (played by Cheri Oteri) and the Gadgetmobile (voiced by D. L. Hughley).

Jonathan "John" Brown dreams of becoming a policeman and helping people, but he is currently confined to a job as a security guard at the Bradford robotics laboratory in Riverton, Ohio, run by Artemus Bradford and his daughter Brenda, the latter of whom John is attracted to. Brenda and Artemus are working to create a lifelike robotic foot as part of the Gadget Program, an operation for robotic cops. One night, a sadistic tycoon thief named Sanford Scolex breaks into the lab, grabs the foot, and assassinates Artemus before escaping in his limousine. John then chases him, and during the ensuing chase, Scolex uses an oil slick. This makes John lose control of his car, resulting in the car skidding into a crash. Scolex then blows John up using explosives disguised as a cigar and leaves him for dead. However, John's bowling ball is launched out of the destroyed Chevette by the blast and crushingly smashes Scolex's left hand, forcing him to replace it with a mechanical claw and take the alias "Dr. Claw."

Inspector Gadget 2 (alternatively known as IG2 or Inspector 2 Gadget in the title sequence) is a 2003 American live-action comedy film, released direct-to-video on VHS and DVD on March 11, 2003. The film is based on the 1983 cartoon series created by DIC Entertainment and is a standalone sequel to the 1999 film, Inspector Gadget.

Inspector Gadget (French Stewart) and his Gadgetmobile (voiced by D.L. Hughley) are having problems in their line of work, mostly because of Gadget's overzealous nature and his paranoia about minor mistakes committed by citizens as being crimes. Gadget is put on probation by an angry Chief Quimby (Mark Mitchell) after criminally charging Quimby's mother for barely going slightly above the speed limit on a mostly-deserted highway. At this time, Dr. Claw (Tony Martin) escapes from prison, seeking to get revenge against Gadget for putting him in prison and to restart his multi-million-dollar empire. Mayor Wilson (Sigrid Thornton) takes this opportunity to create G2 (Elaine Hendrix), a female Gadget-type robot that can function normally compared to the original Gadget, who not only was born a human but has been malfunctioning as of late. Gadget begins to fall in love with G2, though G2 doesn't reciprocate as she prefers to work alone, viewing him as a nuisance.
